La Baume has a population of 700 and boasts a bakery, a small grocery and a bar. The village is dominated by its ruined castle and has a unique 11th century church. In the middle ages, La Baume was the smuggling centre between Provence and the Papal Enclave. The village lies at the centre of one of the most important wine growing areas of France and is also at the heart of the lavender industry. The area is famous for black truffles and neighbouring Richerenches boasts France's biggest truffle market, which is held every weekend from November to March.

This sympathetically restored stone cottage is part of a large farm complex dating back to the 17th century. It has its own courtyard with a gas barbecue and dining area. The interior retains many ancient features including stone walls and beamed ceilings. It has all the character of the 17th century with all the comforts of the 21st. The salon has a stone fireplace and evier. This room includes a sofa-bed which can be used for a fifth and sixth person. There is a colour satellite TV. The dining room has a stone Provencal arched window opening onto the courtyard. The adjacent kitchen has rustic oak cupboards, a five-burner cooker, fridge-freezer, microwave and dishwasher. A small laundry contains a washer and additional sink. A stone staircase leads to two spacious bedrooms and a large bathroom with walk-in shower. The bedrooms have high, beamed ceilings and ample storage space. A folding infant cot is also available. Behind the main farmhouse in a beautifully landscaped garden with olive, fruit and palm trees is an 11x5 metres swimming pool with raised terraces flanking an open cloister with fountain. In this relaxing environment is an additional gas barbecue plus sun-loungers, tables and chairs.

Here, there really is 'something for everyone'. To the South lie all the attractions of Provence including the spectacular Roman ruins of Orange, Nimes, Pont du Gard and Vaison La Romaine; the walled city of Avignon with its magnificent Papal Palace and the famous 'Pont'; and the cliff-top fortified village of Les Baux. To the West is the Ardeche Gorge with its dramatic rock faces, beautiful river and stunning scenery. The area has many astounding underground caverns ornamented with colourful stalagmites and stalactites. This is also a popular area for canoeing and walking. To the North and East the landscape rises into the foothills of the Alps and the outstanding wild beauty of Parc Vercours - the stronghold of the French Resistance. The massif of Mount Ventoux dominates the plain of Provence offering spectacular panoramic views. For the more energetic, horse-riding, cycling, golf and tennis facilities are all nearby.
