Stunning Gite Complex for Sale

Property Location

Le Logis du Paradis is a lovely old complex of buildings dating from 1712, including its former Cognac distillery, built around a large, enclosed, classic Charentais courtyard. It is set in the charming, sleepy hamlet of La Magdeleine on the banks of the small river Né in the midst of the vines of the Grand Cru Grande Champagne Cognac region; famous for the very best Cognacs and Pineaux. Close to the pretty town of Barbezieux 10 minutes drive away which has an exit from the main Angouleme – Bordeaux dual carriageway, the RN10, yet only 30 minutes from historic Cognac and the attractive, busy city of Angoulême with its TGV station and shortly its airport served from London, within easy reach of four other international airports (Poitiers, La Rochelle, Limoges and Bordeaux), Le Logis du Paradis is the ideal location for a tranquil and stimulating stay.

Description of Property

NEW SELF-CATERING APARTMENTS MAISON PERROQUET (Sleeps 4) We are offering these two beautifully converted cottages, freshly finished, in the former Cognac “chais” on the south side of the courtyard (originally the stables when the Logis was a Royal cavalry base), each sleeping 4 persons in great comfort. They are each ideal for 2 couples wishing to be based in the Grande Champagne Cognac region, living more independently, and with more space and still having use of the facilities at Le Logis du Paradis. A high degree of comfort and privacy is offered for visitors within each cottage, with very generous bathroom facilities. Each cottage has exposed beams and stone window surrounds preserving their local character, yet also having a luxuriously equipped modern kitchen, comfortable living area and private terrace plus two excellent modern bedrooms with (at least) one ensuite bathroom per bedroom; see individual descriptions. Rentals are per week with a changeover day on FRIDAY. Linen and towels are provided and all utilities are included in the rental, except telephone (but Wifi is available). A starter pack of provisions is supplied in each kitchen.

Places of Interest

LOCAL PLACES OF INTEREST Where do you begin? The Charente is a very pretty departement with what King Henri IV described as “the most beautiful river in my kingdom”, the Charente, running through the middle of it. Here we have fabulous Romanesque churches from 12th century and villages and small towns built in the fine white Sireuil stone. In the west are the vineyards of the Cognac region; in the east are the pastures and wooded hills of the Charente Limousine towards Limoges. In the south the area blends into the Perigord. It is easy just to meander on the small local roads and laze on the banks of the Charente and go no further. However we have developed a series of more structured trips, each being a fairly easy day out from here, even in a classic car! These include: The Cognac and Grande Champagne trail La Rochelle and the Islands (Ile d’Oleron and Ile de Re) Royan and the Gironde Estuary (Caviar and Lampreys) Bordeaux, the Medoc and the Grand Crus St Emilion and Pomerol The Perigord (Dordogne) and pre-history Limoges and the Confolentais We have attractive routes planned and can recommend lunch stops as well as places of interest.
